Statement
What is the central idea of your concentration?
The central idea of my concentration is to show the relationship between man and technology. I chose a typewriter because it is where technology of cell phones and computers all started. This piece of technology has been used throughout history. This concentration was to portray the way machine is taking over man slowly and surely. Technology is dominating the human race because you never see anyone without a piece of technology in their hands.
How does the work in your concentration demonstrate the exploration of your idea? You may refer to specific images as examples.
For these photos I had taken images of a typewriter and overlaid them onto pictures of my sister. I originally started with the picture of my sister and then dragged the photo of the typewriter and erased the excess parts of the picture that weren't touching parts of her skin. I overlaid the layers, flattened the image, and put the photos in black and white. By using that process I had taken the idea of technology taking over man in a literal sense. These photos are organized in such a way that shows the slow progression of the typewriter taking over her body. The first picture isn't covering the whole hand to show the typewriter keys slowly creeping up her skin. Throughout the later photos the typewriter is touching every part of her body. Throughout the process of taking the photos I had made sure that the lighting had matched in almost every picture so that there wouldn't be a difference in brightness and contrast between the pictures of my sister and the typewriter.
